Resin Bound Driveways

There’s something different about a resin bound driveway. You notice it straight away. The clean finish. The tidy edges. The way it blends in with the house, not just sits outside it. Resin bound surfacing has become one of the most popular choices for Irish homeowners, and for good reason.

At Affordable Driveways and Patios, we’ve been installing resin driveways for years, long before they became the trend. We know what works. We know what lasts. And we know how to do the job properly, so you’re not dealing with cracks, weeds or loose stone two winters later.

The look that lasts

Resin bound surfacing is smooth, solid and made to last. It doesn’t sink or break apart. There are no stones washing away in heavy rain. No patches lifting or bubbling when the frost hits. It’s a proper surface with a clean finish and serious curb appeal.

The mix is simple, fine stone chips blended with a clear, UV-stable resin. It’s laid over a solid tarmac or concrete base and smoothed out by hand. Once cured, it gives a seamless finish that’s strong under pressure, comfortable underfoot, and resistant to Ireland’s changing weather.

Built for Irish homes

A driveway needs to do more than look good. It needs to handle family cars, bins dragged out on wet mornings, kids running in from school, and the full brunt of an Irish winter.

That’s what resin bound does best.

  • It’s fully permeable, no puddles

  • It resists weeds and moss

  • It won’t fade or chip

  • It lasts up to 25 years

  • It suits all house styles, old and new

  • It’s wheelchair and buggy friendly

  • It’s low maintenance, a quick brush or wash keeps it looking brand new

There’s no trick to it. Just proper prep, good gear, and a crew that doesn’t take shortcuts.

No one-size-fits-all

Every house is different. Every driveway is different. We don’t do “standard packages”. When you call us, we come out to your home, have a proper look, talk through what you want, and build a plan that suits your space and budget.

We can add:

  • Border detailing

  • Steps or ramps

  • Recessed manholes

  • Decorative edging

  • Contrasting colour strips

  • Pathways to match

Some clients want a full wraparound resin job. Others just want the drive done and kept simple. Either way, we build it to last, and we leave it looking spotless.

What’s under the surface matters

Resin is only as strong as what it’s laid on. Some contractors will lay resin straight over gravel or old concrete and call it good enough. We don’t do that.

We dig out properly, lay a strong base, compact it right, and only apply resin once the groundwork is solid. That’s the difference between a driveway that lasts two years, and one that lasts twenty.

We take time with every layer. That’s what keeps our work solid.

Colour options that don’t fade

There’s no shortage of colours with resin bound. You can go subtle with silvers and greys, or warm with golds, browns and reds. Some clients want a sleek, modern look. Others want a surface that blends with stone walls and gardens.

Popular finishes include:

  • Celtic Gold

  • Silver Granite

  • Rustic Bronze

  • Jet Black

  • Warm Sand

  • Ash Grey

  • Red Pearl

We’ll bring you physical samples so you can see them in natural daylight before choosing. Photos online don’t always tell the full story.

Typical cost of resin bound driveways

Pricing depends on a few things:

  • Size of the area

  • Ground conditions

  • Type of base (concrete or tarmac)

  • Resin and stone mix chosen

  • Any extras like borders or drainage

As a rough guide:

Resin driveways usually cost €85 to €120 per square metre
That includes all labour, base prep, materials, edging, and waste removal.

We’ll never quote without seeing the site first. That way, there are no surprises later.

Some common questions

How long does installation take?

Most jobs are done in two to four days. The resin itself cures within 24 to 48 hours depending on weather.

Can you drive on it?

Yes. Resin bound is built for cars, vans and light commercial vehicles.

Is it suitable for sloped driveways?

Yes, but we might recommend a specific mix to improve grip.

Does it need sealing?

No. The resin forms a sealed, solid surface by itself.

Can it be power washed?

Yes, just don’t use a super high-pressure lance too close to the surface. A soft wash is best.

What our customers say

Mick – Naas
We’d been putting off fixing the drive for years. Affordable Driveways came out, gave a straight quote, no pressure. Two weeks later we had a resin drive that completely changed the front of the house. I still can’t believe the difference.

Caroline – Dunboyne
We looked at resin originally thinking it was out of our budget. Turns out it wasn’t much more than paving, and it looks ten times better. The lads were professional, tidy, and spot on with their advice.

Pat & Mary – Maynooth
Our old driveway was falling apart. These lads came in, cleared everything, installed proper drainage and laid a resin surface that’s as solid as a rock. Couldn’t fault a thing.
